Can you spot a BMS opportunity, understand what the client actually needs, price the solution and then win the project?
We're working with an established BMS business looking for someone to take ownership of developing project opportunities across both their existing customer base and new relationships.
This isn't simply a case of being handed a quote and being told to go and sell it.
They want someone who understands BMS.
Someone who can sit in front of a customer, understand their building and controls requirements, identify where the opportunity is, develop the solution, put a commercially viable price around it and ultimately turn that conversation into revenue.
Projects range from approximately £20,000 through to major BMS schemes exceeding £1m, giving you the opportunity to build and manage a genuinely varied sales pipeline.
The Role
You'll work with an established client base while also having the freedom to develop opportunities through your own contacts and relationships within the industry.
You'll be responsible for identifying and pursuing new BMS project opportunities and taking them through the sales process.
Crucially, you'll also get involved in pricing the work.
Using established pricing tools and methodologies, you'll develop commercially viable proposals rather than simply passing everything over to an estimating team.
That means understanding the technical requirement, putting the right solution together and making sure what you're selling can actually be delivered.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing BMS project opportunities across existing and new customers
- Building relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders
- Identifying upgrade, refurbishment and new project opportunities
- Managing opportunities from initial conversation through to order
- Understanding client requirements and developing appropriate BMS solutions
- Pricing projects using established pricing tools and methodologies
- Producing quotations and commercial proposals
- Managing a pipeline ranging from approximately £20k to £1m+ projects
- Negotiating commercial terms and closing opportunities
- Working closely with engineering and project teams to ensure sold projects can be successfully delivered
- Developing new relationships through your existing industry network
- Growing revenue while maintaining appropriate project margins
What We're Looking For
This role needs someone with enough technical BMS knowledge to have credible conversations with customers and understand what they're actually selling.
Good Trend and Tridium product knowledge is required.
You'll ideally have:
- BMS sales or business development experience
- Strong Trend knowledge
- Strong Tridium / Niagara knowledge
- Good technical understanding of BMS and building controls
- Experience identifying and developing project opportunities
- Experience pricing or estimating BMS projects
- Strong commercial awareness
- Ability to understand drawings, specifications and customer requirements
- Excellent client-facing and relationship-building skills
- Experience selling projects rather than purely maintenance contracts
- An established network within the BMS / building controls market would be advantageous
- Smart Buildings sales experience would be a significant advantage
You don't need to be someone who has spent their entire career in pure sales.
If you've come through the technical side of BMS, understand projects and pricing, have strong customer relationships and know you can turn opportunities into orders, we'd still be interested in talking.
Why This Role?
